When the sun is shining and the kids are itching to play, head to one of these local parks for fun for all ages!

24th St. N., Birmingham
This inclusive play space is the perfect place to play downtown. The playground even incorporates features of each region of Alabama into the play structures, from the seesaws, rope climber, and swings that reflect the water in the Gulf to the Piedmont “foothills,” made with synthetic turf material. If you have kids who are into skateboarding, pickleball, or ping pong, be sure to also check those out while you’re there too.

1632 Oxmoor Rd., Homewood
If you’re looking for a nice, large playground, check out Homewood Central Park, nestled between downtown Homewood and Edgewood. It was recently updated and offers fun for kids of all ages and all abilities. The turf grass is an added bonus. Plus, the park has six pavilions with picnic tables, two tennis courts, an amphitheater, and cement walking paths that surround an open green space.

4800 Valleydale Rd., Hoover
Veterans Park has practically everything you and your kid could want, including a playground, three sand volleyball courts, a walking/running trail, and pickleball courts. The two pavilions also provide a shady spot for a lunch or afternoon snack break. You could easily spend the whole day here and still have things to do.

710 Oak Grove Rd., Homewood
Snag a coffee across the street at Seeds and then stroll along the walking path or sit on a bench and watch your children play on the playground. They can pick up a Little Free Library book to read beside you if they get tired, and if they need to go to the bathroom, there are public restrooms at the park.

2521 Waldridge Rd., Vestavia Hills
Play play play! This park offers so much, from the giant community playgrounds (yes, that’s plural!) to the pickleball courts, tennis courts, dog park, picnic areas, and a walking track around the whole thing.
