CMS cultivates a life-long love of learning and fosters self-control and self-direction from an early age. Students learn at their own pace, under the thoughtful guidance of a professionally-trained Montessori teacher. Each CMS classroom is designed to facilitate individualized, independent, purposeful work within a warm and peaceful setting. Beginning in our toddler classrooms, the child begins to develop coordination, concentration, and independence while realizing that learning is an exciting process of discovery.

Toddler Program
Toddlers are just beginning to engage with the world outside their families, and it is an exuberant, joyful time, full of challenges and opportunities for self-mastery and social development.

In a toddler classroom you will see children exhibiting great concentration as they engage with materials that satisfy their sense of order. From this comes a great joy as they master the skills for doing so many things for themselves.

The Practical Life area of the classroom is often the busiest corner as toddlers learn the life skills they see their parents and siblings engaged in and which they are so eager to imitate: pouring, folding, buttoning, zipping, sorting, and even cleaning.

Primary
The Preschool, or Primary, classrooms offer academic work in practical life and sensorial skills, as well as math, language, science, social studies, art, French, and music. Each child works at his own pace and selects his own work choices under the supervision of the classroom teachers. Thus, the curriculum is tailored to the needs and interests of the individual child and fosters in each child a sense of inner discipline and an enjoyment of working and learning.

The Extended Day Program, designed for five- and six-year-olds, is the culmination of the Montessori preschool program and is equivalent to the Kindergarten year in traditional schools. Students enjoy an extended afternoon work period as they prepare to enter the elementary program the following year. During this time, children work on extensions to their lessons, as well as special interest projects.
