If you’ve been in Birmingham (or the state of Alabama) long, you know that Children’s of Alabama is known for being an incredible hospital—and we have the stats to prove it. For the 16th year in a row, U.S. News & World Report ranked Children’s of Alabama as among the best hospitals for children across the nation.
“We are pleased to be once again ranked among the best children’s hospitals in the nation and the best hospital for children in Alabama,” says Tom Shufflebarger, Children’s of Alabama CEO and President. “We appreciate this recognition of the hard work and dedication of our staff and physician partners at the UAB School of Medicine. Enhancing the quality of care for our patients will always remain a top priority at Children’s.”
Not only is it nationally ranked in 8 pediatric specialities, it’s regionally ranked #1 in Alabama and #4 in the Southeast. These rankings are created by U.S. News data scientists out of data they analyze from over 5,000 hospitals that are annually evaluated and information from 500 million hospital visits. “To be nationally ranked in a specialty, a hospital must excel in caring for the sickest, most medically complex patients,” their report shares. Wondering which areas they excel in? Let’s take a look.

Here are the specialties they ranked in this year:
– Pediatric Cancer (#30 in the nation)
– Pediatric Cardiology & Heart Surgery (#22 in the nation)
