Looking for a fun Friday lunch spot? You can now head downtown to Automatic Seafood & Oysters (2824 5th Ave. S., Birmingham) for lunch on Fridays from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. If you’ve never visited Automatic Seafood & Oysters (or ASO, for short), you definitely should give it a try. It’s a mix of fine dining and comfy casual—you can show up in dress pants or in cute shorts, and you’ll be accepted either way. It is reminiscent of an upscale beach club—very coastal, with striped awnings and umbrellas, blues peppered throughout the space, and wicker rattan lighting. The food is also coastal-inspired fare from executive chef and owner Adam Evans. (Curious why it’s called “Automatic”? It was named after the building’s past life as the Automatic Sprinkler Corporation manufacturing facility!)

They just kicked off their new lunch service with a special lunch menu that you won’t want to miss. It features classics like their warm Yeast Rolls (whipped butter, yes please!) and their version of Fish n’ Chips, served with their thrice-cooked pub fries and curry ketchup, as well as a variety of other delicious seafood options: Raw Oysters on the Half Shell, Grouper BLT, Red Snapper Ceviche, Oyster and Potato Chowder, and Filet o’ Fish, to name a few. Their fish is primarily sourced from the Gulf of Mexico, and their oysters from the waters along the Southern and Eastern coastlines. They even have a Shrimp and Avocado Salad for you greens lovers out there.

Not a fan of seafood? No worries, their ASO Cheeseburger is delish, with dried aged beef, gooey cheese, and caramelized onion aioli atop a brioche bun. They offer a wide variety of drinks as well, if you’re looking to elevate your dining experience. Top it all off with a delicious slice of Key Lime Pie! Reservations are available on Resy, with indoor and patio seating available.
