Dance for joy, your favorite Christmas ballet is back! Alabama Ballet is performing George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker® this December in downtown Birmingham at the BJCC Concert Hall, and you won’t want to miss it. If you catch one of the shows from December 13–15, you can hear the Alabama Symphony Orchestra perform Tchaikovsky’s cherished score live. If you’re wanting to dream of sugar plums a little closer to the “big day,” you can catch a show December 18–23. This family-friendly show is great for all ages—so bring the whole crew with you, littles and all!
The Alabama Ballet is one of only eight ballet companies in the world permitted by the Balanchine Trust to perform Balanchine’s The Nutcracker®. Our state’s premiere ballet company will perform Balanchine’s iconic choreography under the artistic direction of Christopher Stuart, creating an unforgettable musical and theatrical experience.
Follow young Clara as she goes on a magical adventure on Christmas Eve after her nutcracker doll comes to life. The ballet will have you holding your breath in anticipation during the fight against the Mouse King and will inspire wonder when watching Clara journey into the Land of Sweets where she meets the Sugar Plum Fairy. You’ll be entranced by the whimsical, fairytale-like scenes of the dancing snowflakes in the magical forest and by the talent of the performers throughout the ballet.
