One of our “Favorite Things” has happened: The American Theatre Guild has released their 2026–27 season at the BJCC Concert Hall! And trust me, you will not want to miss any of these six Broadway shows when they come to Birmingham. From timeless, heartwarming classics and tender tear-jerkers to hilarious comedies, these musicals are famous for a reason. There’s a show for everyone. Take a look:

1. HAMILTON

Coming September 22–27, 2026

There’s a reason this musical has captured hearts across the nation. This American musical, written by Lin-Manuel Miranda, follows the life of Founding Father Alexander Hamilton. The score blends hip-hip, R&B, pop, and show tunes in a sung-and-rapped style of biography unlike anything else you’ve ever heard. It’s got all the feels, and it’s a blast to watch.

2. MAMMA MIA!

Coming November 17–22, 2026

Mamma mia, this Jukebox musical will make you smile, laugh, and want to sing along to the hit songs by ABBA. Sophie’s marriage is rapidly approaching, making her all the more eager to discover which of the three men from her mother’s past is her father. You get an up-close look at how she grapples with questions of love, friendship, and identity. If you liked the movie, you’ll love the Broadway production.

3. THE SOUND OF MUSIC

Coming February 2–7, 2027

This Rodgers & Hammerstein production has been charming audiences for 65 years with a score that features many beloved songs, including ““Do-Re-Mi,” “Sixteen Going on Seventeen” and “Edelweiss.” You’ll be happily “Trapped” in this romantic tale of Maria and the von Trapp family.

4. THE NOTEBOOK

Coming April 6–11, 2027

Think Nicholas Sparks-meets-Broadway. This hit musical depicts Allie and Noah’s whirlwind romance and lifetime of love amid the life forces threatening to tear them apart. Everything you love about The Notebook comes to life: the rain, the tear-inducing tenderness, the characters, and more.

5. THE OUTSIDERS

Coming May 25–30, 2027

A friend who loves Broadway recently shared this is her new favorite Broadway show—which is very telling. Whether you read the book in 8th grade or it’s a completely new storyline to you, the coming-of-age musical is worth watching. The production is set in 1967 Tulsa, Oklahoma, and the story follows 14-year-old Ponyboy Curtis, his brothers, and their “Greasers” friends—the “outsiders,” if you will—as they navigate socioeconomic conflicts, violence, and identity struggles against the affluent upper-middle-class “Socs.”

6. THE BOOK OF MORMON

Coming June 15–20, 2027

A satirical musical, this musical follows two mismatched, inexperienced Mormon missionaries as they venture into a dangerous village in Uganda to preach their faith. It has grossed over $800 million, making it one of the most successful musicals ever, and as of December 2025, it’s the 10th-longest running Broadway show (right beneath Mamma Mia!).
