Birmingham Vegan Fest’s largest celebration yet will take place this Sunday, April 6th, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Cahaba Brewery, located at 4500 5th Avenue South, and it’s going to be one for the books. Seventy vendors will be offering their food, art, apparel, and even plant-based health and beauty products for sale. Admission is free—you don’t even have to be vegan to attend.

“Vegan Fest grows bigger each time we do it,” explains co-organizer Melinda Darby. “People in Central Alabama are eager to make better choices, and we are thrilled to be part of that. We love showcasing local businesses, plus we bring in several out-of-state vendors who come here just for this festival.” If you’ve been before, you won’t be surprised to know food trucks and other food vendors come with any kind of cuisine you might be craving: Thai, Mexican, Chinese, Soul, Indian, and more.

While the “veg fest” certainly draws health enthusiasts, rest assured that they’ll have much more than salad. “In addition to health-conscious whole-food plant-based options, we’ll have vegan comfort food such as pizza, pancakes, cookies, cobblers, dairy-free ice cream, ‘cheezcake,’ carrot dogs, plant-based ‘wingz,’ sandwiches, empanadas, beignets, and vegan seafood,” assures Darby. Grab you a carrot dog and jam along to local DJ Dillon T. Spicer’s music while you shop and explore. You can also order a vegan-friendly beer or drink at Cahaba Brewery. Make sure to enter the hourly drawings for prizes and keep your eye out for Magic City Disco’s performance.

“We love responding to the community’s enthusiasm and helping people connect around vegan food,” explains Co-organizer Ned Freeman. “Having so much packed together at a single event makes a strong statement about how popular and accessible vegan food is becoming in the Magic City.”

Most vendors will accept cards, Venmo, or Cash App, but have some cash on hand just in case, because a few are cash only.
