Need an idea for a date night spot? Or, ladies, let’s be real—sometimes, you just really need a Girls Night Out. Try Adiõs, an elegant cocktail bar downtown (2218 1st Ave. N., Suite 100, Birmingham). Open Sunday–Thursday from 4 p.m. til midnight and until 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday, you can go early and hit the hay before the clock hits double digits or start your weekend off with a bang. (If you do go early, you’ll be “happy” to discover they have a daily happy hour from 4–6 p.m.)
Whether you’re in the mood for a margarita, a glass of wine, a Mexican beer, or a frozen cocktail, Adiõs has you covered. They have a mix of classic cocktails and special house cocktails, which change according to the season. Try the night’s version of a PSL with the Pumpkin Colada, a creamy, cozy drink that will have you savoring all the notes of fall. If you’re feeling fruity, the frozen Sí Cherry is refreshing and served in a traditional Mexican clay cup. If this is a post-dinner pitstop, the Carajillo is your go-to—similar to an espresso martini, this drink is dessert in a cup.

This is not your college bar scene. Adiõs is everything you want from a cocktail bar: It’s warm and inviting, with moody shadows, leather booths and big chairs, and vibey music all working together to create an intimate environment. Large tropical plants flank the corners and candles grace the tables. Moreover, it has elements of the traditional Latino heritage scattered throughout the space, including antique stained glass from a chapel and prints from an Oaxacan artist. These provide guests with a glimpse into Mexican hospitality founders José Medina Camacho and Jesús Méndez both experienced growing up in Mexico before they immigrated to Alabama in the early 90s. A Dia de los Muertos ofrenda also sits in the back corner, inviting guests to celebrate the life of lost loved ones year-round. Camacho and Méndez desire for Adiõs to be more than just a fun spot to snag a drink—they aspire that it is “an interactive opportunity for guests to experience the ingredients, music, and art that make up the vibrant fabric of Mexico City,” as their website explains.
Día de los Muertos
You can even celebrate Día de los Muertos with Adiõs on Saturday, November 1 through Sunday, November 2, which also marks the third anniversary of Adiõs! The weekend will be jam-packed with special festivities, including a DJ on Saturday and Sunday and a birthday cake and giveaways on Sunday. Nightshade is even planning to make an appearance on Sunday from 4 p.m. until sold out, serving flat-top brisket sandwiches with Nightshade hot sauce. Needless to say, whether you’ve never been or it’s just been awhile, Adiõs is calling your name. ¡Adiõs, amigos!
