PNC Grow Up Great Provides Literacy Tools and Resources for Children in Jefferson County
Published: May 21, 2021
Childcare Resources’ Head Start Program partnered with PNC Grow Up Great to inspire great futures for young children. PNC Grow Up Great is a $500 million, a multi-year, bilingual initiative that began in 2004 to help prepare children from birth to age five for success in school and life. Childcare Resources’ Head Start and Early Head Start Programs promote a child’s development through comprehensive early learning, health, and family well-being services, and operate through a partnership model with local schools, child care programs, and the community.
In March, PNC Grow Up Great donated over 200 children’s books to Childcare Resources’ Head Start programs in Jefferson County. Additionally, volunteers from PNC Grow Up Great hosted virtual storytime readings via Zoom with the children in various Head Start facilities. With an emphasis on the first five years of life, this partnership focused on nourishing the early education environment for children, families, and child care providers in Jefferson County.
“Children and families everywhere have adapted to navigate the world of online learning over the past year,” says Joan Wright, Executive Director of Childcare Resources. “We are inspired by our passionate community partners that have also shifted their initiatives to fit the virtual space, ensuring that children are still receiving the best start in school and life.”
The readings were held virtually on Tuesday, April 27 through Friday, April 30, 2021.
