The Five Points Alliance (FPA) is pleased to announce the dates and event schedule for the Five Point South St. Patrick’s Celebration, Birmingham’s premier and most historic celebration of the Irish holiday. From Monday, March 11 to Sunday, March 17, 2019, Five Points South will celebrate all-things Irish with weeklong Irish food and drink specials from Five Point South restaurants and bars, as well as events such as an Irish Flag raising, Irish toast, dinner, parade and more. “It’s always great to host the St. Patrick’s Day Celebration in Five Points South,” says James Little, Five Points Alliance board member and owner of Filter – Coffee Parlor. “Five Points South is Birmingham’s premier neighborhood and culinary destination and is home to some of the best restaurants and bars in the country. This event has become one of Alabama’s leading St. Patrick’s Day Celebrations, and we’re excited for everyone to Eat, Drink and Be Green in Five Points South!”
The following events are scheduled for March 14, 15, 16 and 17:
Irish Flag Raising & The Great Birmingham Irish Toast
Thursday, March 14 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
The celebration will kick off Thursday, March 14 at the flagpole located at Chick-fil-A in Five Points South, as an Irish Flag is raised. The Birmingham Irish Cultural Society will lead the ceremony, which will include pipe and drum performances and an Irish blessing. Following the ceremony, there will be an Irish toast complete with Guinness beer and Tullamore Dew Irish whiskey at Brennan’s Irish Pub as FPA aims to gather the largest crowd yet for Birmingham’s largest St. Patrick’s toast! Those celebrating by purchasing a Guinness can have their pint glass etched that evening.
39th Annual St. Patrick’s Dinner presented by the Birmingham Irish Cultural Society
Friday, March 15 at 7 p.m.
Hosted at Pine Tree Country Club, the Birmingham Irish Cultural Society will host the 39th Annual St. Patrick’s Dinner on Friday, March 15 at 7 p.m. With a menu of traditional Irish fare, guests will have an immersive experience through food, dancing, music and more. 35th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade
Saturday, March 16 from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Parade: 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.
Birmingham’s largest St. Patrick’s Day parade will take place in Five Points South on Saturday, March 16 from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. The procession, led by the 2019 Parade Marshall and the Ian Sturrock Memorial Pipe Band, will make its way through Five Points South and end at Zydeco.
