Stuff the Bus with 500,000 Diapers — September 23rd thru October 2nd
Published: September 21, 2022
Bundles of Hope Diaper Bank is excited to announce its 8th Annual Stuff the Bus Diaper Drive sponsored by Medical Properties Trust. A large school bus will be parked on Hwy 280 on the gravel easement below the Target Shopping Center. The 10-day drive will begin at 4 p.m. Friday, Sept 23rd and will run in conjunction with Diaper Need Awareness Week, proclaimed by Mayor Woodfin.
Small actions like donating a package of diapers can transform a young family’s day-to-day life. One in 3 families struggle with diaper need, and the pandemic continues to impact families, from job loss to the 8- to 10-percent increases in costs of essential items. Sometimes it’s the most basic needs that can create the most stress for parents—and the most basic acts of kindness that can relieve that stress. The 8th Annual Stuff the Bus Diaper Drive aims to fill a school bus with ½ MILLION diapers and bring awareness to this often overlooked basic need.
This year, Bundles of Hope’s creative network of volunteers has worked together to expand its diaper drive to amplify awareness and deepen its impact during these financially challenging times. Here’s how:
- Bundles of Hope is coordinating 75+ diaper drives throughout the community (hosted by local groups, businesses, neighborhoods, and churches) who will collect donations the entire month of September.
- Bundles of Hope accepts diapers in new as well as opened packages and our most needed sizes are 6 & Pull-Ups, as well as wipes.
- Sponsor billboards across town to bring light and attention to this silent need.
- Set a fundraising goal of $50,000.
Since 2015, Bundles of Hope is the only nonprofit in Birmingham solely focused on consistently and reliably meeting this basic need in our community, distributing 4 million diapers to date.
The impact is real: Overwhelming and enthusiastic community support from both volunteers and recipients continues to increase awareness and further the success of Bundles’ mission. And this constant distribution of diapers and wipes to babies and their families has necessitated a larger warehouse space, which was established in Fountain Heights. More accessible to their partner agencies and clients, the new location is called The Changing Station, and its mere existence speaks to the sustainability and significance of Bundles’ mission.
