Spectrum representatives donated $5,000 in mid-November to Alabama STEM Education, a nonprofit that has provided innovative, engaging and interactive out of school time activities to more than 1,400 youth in Jefferson County since 2014.
The donation will help support the organization’s work to empower the minds of underrepresented, underserved children in the areas of STEM – science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
“Spectrum was a great addition to our Thanksgiving family luncheon,” says Juanita Graham, Executive Director of Alabama STEM Education. “Their donation will help us provide area youth with ongoing STEM education opportunities, and their presence here today provided learning opportunities for both children and parents alike.”
Along with the funding, Spectrum donated three laptop computers to Alabama STEM Education and provided a hands-on opportunity to see technology in real life through a ‘Touch-a-Truck’ activity with Spectrum vehicles and technicians.
As part of the program, Spectrum representatives also addressed high-speed broadband affordability, sharing important information about the Federal Communications Commission’s Affordable Connectivity Program with parents.
“The Affordable Connectivity Program is an important step in driving broadband adoption in America,” says Taylor Vice, Alabama Director of Government Affairs for Charter Communications, Inc., which operates the Spectrum brand of connectivity products.
For more information on the Affordable Connectivity Program and to apply online, consumers should visit fcc.gov/acp. Interested consumers should first confirm their eligibility through the National Verifier, then contact Spectrum at 1-877-959-1748 to apply for the credit.
