If it’s icky, sticky or yucky – it’s Gross Out Camp! This award-winning science camp gets children in grades 1st-4th outside in their native habitat – the outdoors – to study hands-on field biology. At Gross Out Camp, learning is so much fun, they will never know it! (It's science but please don't tell the kids!)

Campers experience live animal shows with snakes, lizards, turtles and a bunny. They explore the woods, searching for millipedes, worms and roly polies (see our very competitive roly poly race in the video below). Where there is a creek ,we go fishing Huck-Finn style with self-made sticks and sometimes line tied to fingers (it is easier to feel the fish tug). They discover crawdads, water currents and clams. Science experiments include polymers (slime), lava lamps (density) and polar, non-polar molecules.

All of our lessons are based on design-thinking -- which creates critical thinking skills. Lessons address every learning style so that every child can be successful. Using self-directed studies, the children can learn at their own pace -- and focus on what they are interested in: plants, animals, bugs, science experiments, or herps (snakes).

All of this plus the freedom to explore the natural world in a safe way, comprises Fresh Air Family's Gross Out Camp. It is the kind of science children love: hands-on, a bit disgusting, and all taking place in the Great Outdoors. It is also fun -- because we believe nothing is more fun than learning! For the parent, we guarantee tired, dirty children.
