Calling all craftlovers! The Craft Room just opened in West Homewood and it’s a creative wonderland. Located at 169 Oxmoor Rd., Suite #109, across the street from Seeds Coffee Co., this secondhand supply shop—what they call a “creative reuse cafe”—is filled to the brim with rotating unique, affordable craft supplies. You’ll find everything from paper crafts to canvas projects to everything yarn and fabric. “Give pre-loved items a new life and fuel your creativity sustainably,” their website encourages. Their aim is to create more affordable art supplies and reduce waste. They offer skill-building workshops, creativity-boosting beverages like coffee, and a rotating menu of self-guided, drop-in craft projects.

“As a mom of three, I’m constantly navigating my kids’ (and my own) creative phases; One month it’s friendship bracelets, the next it’s painting. It can be expensive to keep up, and you’re always left with a pile of supplies that are no longer being used,” explains Blakely O’Conner, Owner and Founder. “The Craft Room helps solve that. It’s a place where you can find affordable, preloved supplies for that next school project or hobby, and also a place to donate the materials from the last one, knowing they’ll go to a good home. It’s a sustainable solution for the creative family.” It’s “a space for makers and dreamers, for craftivists and scrappy artists, and for anyone who believes in the power of making things by hand or is curious to try,” their social media describes (@thecraftroomhwd). And if, like us, you have a pile of half-used craft supplies gathering dust in the closet, you can earn store credit by donating! To learn how to get crafty, visit thecraftroom.co.
