From the roar of the fans to jaw-dropping stunts by expert drivers, Monster Jam is a high-energy celebration of adrenaline, skill, and, of course, extremely cool trucks. At the end of this month you can catch the thrills at the Protective Arena in Birmingham. 

The show begins with a race in which the massive trucks compete head-to-head. The next few events are heart-pumping spectacles where the crowd determines the winners. Two-Wheel Event is a crowd favorite, where drivers showcase their skill by performing gravity-defying stunts. 

Then there’s the Freestyle Competition, a highlight where drivers are given free rein to show off their coolest tricks—often pushing their trucks to their limits. The entire show is unexpected, unscripted, and unforgettable!

Ashley Sanford, a driver for Monster Jam, says, “You never know what you’re going to get. Drivers may be trying new stunts, so there’s a chance to see things never performed before.”

Sanford drives the Megalodon—a 12,000-pound prehistoric shark truck. As a California girl and huge beach-lover, Sanford says it felt special to be paired with the vehicle. Sanford grew up attending Monster Truck shows and as a young girl, she wondered what it would be like to be behind the wheel. She got the chance to find out when she joined Monster Jam as a competitor in 2023. 

Monster Jam is for all ages, Sanford says. “It gets everyone’s hearts pumping–I’ve seen grandmas and four-year-olds with jaws dropped.”

For young fans dreaming of becoming Monster Jam drivers, Sanford has some advice: “Go for it! Stay persistent, believe in yourself, and put in the work. You can do anything you set your mind to!”
