I can still remember listening to the chatter about John Green’s novels through the halls of my middle school. Fast-forward all these years later, and he just released a new book, Everything is Tuberculosis—but this one’s different than The Fault in Our Stars. It’s a personal narrative, telling the story of Henry, a little boy John met in 2019 who doubled as a tuberculosis patient at Lakka Government Hospital in Sierra Leone while John was traveling with Partners in Health. Everything is Tuberculosis interweaves Henry’s story with the scientific and social histories of how tuberculosis has shaped our world, leaving millions of deaths in its wake.
Now, Green is making his way to Birmingham to talk about the book—so if you’ve ever wanted to meet the face behind the books, here’s your chance. Children’s of Alabama, Thank You Books, and the Alys Stephens Performing Arts Center welcome author John Green to Birmingham to discuss his book at UAB’s Alys Stephens Center on June 12 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $51 and include a pre-signed copy of the book. A portion of each ticket will be donated to Children’s of Alabama.
Dr. David Kimberlin, co-director of pediatric infectious diseases at Children’s of Alabama, will join Green for a discussion on the book, as well as answer any questions the audience has. So be thinking about what you want to ask Green!
