Based on the hit film, Disney’s Frozen is the musical that wowed audiences across the world – and it has finally come to Birmingham. Now through June 29, Red Mountain Theatre will be bringing their vision of the beloved tale to the stage. (For anyone who doesn’t already have the movie memorized, the story tells of two sheltered sisters who must find their way to claim their powers in the wintery kingdom of Arendelle, along with a reindeer, magical Hidden Folk, and a hysterical snowman.) The musical features all the songs you already know and love, plus a dozen more written specifically for the show by the original songwriting team. But the most exciting part of bringing Frozen to life on stage means digging deep into theatre’s bag of special effects tricks. RMT has engaged lighting, costume, scenic, and projection artists from Alabama and around the country to make the magic happen. We can’t give away the secrets though, so you’ll have to see for yourself!
The cast stars Sarah Anne Fernandez (just off the National Tour of Wicked) as Elsa and returning favorite Mariel Ardilla (last seen at RMT as Cinderella) as Anna. Most of the cast members are local, and represent the best musical theatre talent in the southeast. Four young performers—Ella Bryant, EV Carden, Grace Mia Afanador-Baez, and Maggie Burnell—also join the adult cast in the Young Anna and Young Elsa roles. Ella, EV, and Grace auditioned for the roles after falling in love with theatre in RMT’s Young Artist Productions this past year. Now all four are excited to be part of their first “big” production.
