Sometimes you just gotta get out of the house.

Walk right in and check it out for yourself!

Maybe you work a remote job, or maybe you just have projects that won’t get done unless you step away from the chaos inside your home. In this modern age, many people frequent coffee shops or coworking spaces to “get stuff done,” but I’ll be the first to admit, a coffee shop closing at 2 p.m. is not convenient. And what do you do when you finally tuck the kids in bed, but everywhere is closed and you know the second you sit down on the couch to knock work out, you’ll fall asleep?

A peek into the co-working space.

Switchyards is working to solve all these problems. Located at 3606 6th Ave. S. in downtown Birmingham, it’s the “world’s first neighborhood work club,” open 24/7—perfect for those midnight inspo sessions. “We’re going for a cozy, familiar neighborhood pub,” explains Brandon, the Creative Director. “So Mom can slip away for two hours after the kids get home at 3:30 or after they go to sleep.”

The quiet room… Can you feel the productivity in the air?

What makes them special is the intimate environment they’ve cultivated, from the warm lighting to the filing cabinets to the leafy plants scattered throughout the building. “This space has elements of a bougie hotel lobby, a coffee shop, and a college library,” one of the employees describes. “Lots of little nooks everywhere.”

Come anytime, morning or night. It’ll be open!

They have tables and chairs located in the central room that makes up the collective co-working area, phone booths you can sit in to take a call on speakerphone, a meeting space you can reserve, and a “quiet” room with cubbies, low lighting, and white noise for the times when you really need to focus.

Plus, they have self-serve local coffee—Cala’s coffee beans and Domestique coffee—and a tea bar.

Free local coffee & organic tea bar.

To check it out, visit their website or stop by May 14th from 6–8 p.m. for their grand opening party. Make sure to RSVP so you can be entered in their raffle—they’re giving away 10 lifetime memberships! They’ll also be serving beer, wine, and other refreshments.

Want to join? Their membership drops at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 15th. The first 50 members only pay $50/month—the normal rate is $100/month—and the space opens Monday, May 19th.
