If you haven’t made your weekend plans yet, we’ve got you covered. (And after you find out how we are spending our Saturday afternoon, you might just cancel your plans so you can come too.) This Saturday, April 5th, Workshops Empowerment Inc. (WE Inc.) is hosting their 4th annual Great Birmingham Bake Off at Cahaba Brewing Company from 2–4 p.m. and it’s bound to be one for the recipe books!
“We are excited to see what the community does with our WE Made baking mixes,” explains Austin England, Director of Marketing for WE Inc. “The base for each competitor’s dish is one of our baking mixes that is made in our facility in Avondale by people going through our program.”
Your ticket for $20 secures you a free drink from Cahaba Brewing Co., sugary samples galore, and the ability to cast your vote for which baked good should win the People’s Choice Award! If you’re next level, though, you’re gonna want the $45 ticket that includes a Bake Off t-shirt too. Bring your kiddos 10 and under for free—although we are not held responsible for their sugar high. 🙂
The icing on the cake of this deliciously competitive event is that it’s raising money to equip people in our community to overcome hardship. (What’s better than eating sugar to support a good—and local—cause?) “WE Inc. is all about helping people living with disabilities and other barriers to the workforce find jobs out in the community,” England shares. WE Inc. is a Birmingham-based nonprofit that helps people gain work experience and earn a steady income in the food service.
Stroll along listening to live music while you peruse food truck offers as well as other products for sale. Make sure to keep an eye out for the local judges that will be awarding the Grand Champion and the Team Spirit awards:
Gary Jones, Head Chef of Empower Cafe
Crystal Peterson, Owner of Yo’ Mama’s
Bryson McGlynn, Winner of MasterChef Jr.
See you there!
