The Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind (AIDB) has long-anticipated the day they could open a facility for deaf and blind students across the state of Alabama to come together for activities and events. Thanks to a $100,000 contribution from Honda, this dream is being fulfilled in real time, with Honda’s donation enabling the new AIDB Student Life and Conference Center to be established.
“Honda is committed to helping all people achieve their life’s potential, and our support for the new AIDB Student Life and Conference Center underscores that commitment,” stated Bobbie Trittschuh, manager of corporate giving, American Honda Motor Co., Inc. AIDB President Dr. Dennis Gilliam shared how Honda’s gift will impact the institute: “The dream we have had at AIDB has been to create a space for all students and staff from all campuses to gather together for large inclusive events, and now with the help of contributions like this one from Honda, it is now a reality.”
AIDB Foundation Board President Mike Royer echoed these sentiments when talking about the new project, explaining, “This new addition will create so many events for the students within all our schools to come together and to create impactful training opportunities for our staff. We are incredibly thankful for partners like Honda,” said.
This new facility will cover all the bases for students: academic, social, cultural, and recreational. From prom and club meetings to academic competitions, music performances, and art shows, AIDB students will finally have the space and opportunities to improve their personal social skills, interact with groups, and undergo professional development. The new Student Life and Conference Center will undoubtedly have a tremendous impact on the options given to students at the Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind all throughout Alabama, which makes it even more exciting to consider what the future holds for AIDB.
