Jasper Area Family Services Center, Inc. will receive two grants from the Alabama Department of Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention (The Children’s Trust Fund) that will begin on September 1.
These grants will assist in funding two of JAFSC’s Parent Education and Support programs. The nationally recognized program Baby TALK has been awarded $35,000 while the Supporting Parents, Strengthening Families Program has been awarded $32,500.
Preparing children to succeed in a competitive society begins in the home. Founded in 1986, Baby TALK (Teaching for Learning and Knowledge) encourages and instructs parents on methods to establish a nurturing relationship with their children. Similarly, Supporting Parents, Strengthening Families of Walker County provides educational classes to strengthen protective factors for parents, teens, and youth along with family-centered coaching for participating families.
“The grants allow us to continue to serve families and children and expand services,” says Donna Kilgore, Executive Director. “Baby TALK provides support for the early years to learn and reinforce the importance of bonding with your children beginning at birth, recognize developmental milestones and support the importance of words and reading at an early age.”
“This grant helps us provide one-on-one time in addition to group settings for families facing challenging behavior with their children. Being a parent is very rewarding but also stressful. We want to support families in reaching their hopes and dreams for their families,” Kilgore adds.
Jasper Area Family Services Center, Inc. provides services for families of Walker County and surrounding areas.
