A food and farm market featuring all local small businesses - Thursdays 4-7 pm starting April 1st
Published: March 19, 2021
Unity of Birmingham in the Highland Park neighborhood of downtown Birmingham is excited to bring back their weekly community event, Unity Market, this April with a new schedule.
The market will open every Thursday afternoon from 4-7 pm starting April 1, 2021, and will feature all small, local food and farm businesses that share in their passion for real food and sustainable food systems.
Unity Market will host 10+ vendors that include many of last year’s favorites like Ono Ice, Ireland Farms, Walden Farmacy, Last Call Baked Goods, Hepzibah Farm, Kind Harvest Farm, Eastaboga Bee Company, Wild Violet Gardens, Forgotten Ways Farm, WildFox Tea, Magic City Mushrooms, Tay-Thai Street Food, Encore Dessert Bar, and Green Guy Gourmet, to name a few. You can expect to find a wide variety of produce including specialty mushrooms, salad greens, and herbs; potted plants; local honey; baked goods; shaved ice; cheesecake cups; goats cheeses, lotions, and soaps; farm eggs; pasture-raised meat; sauces and dressings, fresh-cut flowers; medicinal tinctures, teas, and what Unity Market regulars argue is the best Thai food in Birmingham. The market will also be floating a web-based format where shoppers can pre-order their goods for curbside pickup on the market day via their web store at unitybham.org/unity-market. On the last Thursday of each month, Unity Market will be even bigger, as they will be inviting artists and makers to also join the vendor lineup, and guests will enjoy a free outdoor concert from a local musical act.
The market also sponsors a weekly series called Lectures on the Lawn. A leader from the community that is doing big and beautiful things in Birmingham is invited to speak on the lawn of Unity of Birmingham about the work that they do and why they do it just as the market closes at 7 pm each Thursday (excluding the last Thursday of the month when they will instead invite a musical act to perform). Unity Market’s Instagram page (@unitymarketbham) is the best source for regular updates on market happenings and Lectures on the Lawn speakers.
Unity Market is a public ministry of Unity of Birmingham, an inclusive and vibrant spiritual community.
The market was born amidst the pandemic last summer at a time when it became more important than ever to get fresh food and groceries to the community, to support struggling local businesses, and to provide a safe outlet for social connection in a very isolating time.
