Samford University Academy of the Arts

Samford's Academy of the Arts offers classes for kids, teens and adults in art, language, music and photography. Try calligraphy, drawing, photography, painting, pottery, as well as music lessons for all ages in piano, strings, theory, and voice. Look for summer camps too!

ARTS AND ANTIQUES
From classes in ceramics, acrylics, drawing, painting, stained glass, and new classes added each semester, the Academy of the Arts offers our patrons the opportunity to explore new interests and learn from a wide variety of artists in our community.
We also have art for children ages 6-years old through High School and Homeschool. Classes run every fall and spring.

LANGUAGE AND ESL CLASSES
Planning a trip and need to brush up on your Spanish, French or Italian? The Academy offers refresher courses on speaking, writing, listening and reading skills in these languages. Additionally, the Academy has a professional staff to train students in English as a second language. From beginners to intermediate to pronunciation for professionals, these classes provide practical instruction for all levels.

MUSIC CLASSES
The Samford University Academy of the Arts Music offers a well-rounded musical experience for students of all ages. Emphasis is placed on performance, technique, theory, composition and appreciation in the disciplines of piano and voice. Private and class instruction are supplemented by frequent recitals and special events. With over 50 years in instruction, the Academy is a premier program for the Birmingham community.

PHOTOGRAPHY
Professional photographers offer courses from basic photography to advanced techniques. Learn to navigate your camera to take professional photos and enhance the quality of your photographs. Take a step beyond the camera and learn Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop Basics, printing, and studio lighting. Instructors also offer themed classes including weddings, animals, creative fine art, outdoors and landscapes. Some classes require prerequisites and we also offer a photography certificate program.
