Benefit Features Keynote Speaker Todd Gerelds

Published: August 20, 2023

The keynote speaker of the Harvest of Hope Luncheon & Silent Auction benefitting Oak Mountain Mission Ministries on September 12 will be Todd Gerelds, author of the best-selling book Woodlawn.

The book, which became a major motion picture, recounts how Todd witnessed God’s amazing love transform his father, a team, a school, and even a city.  Todd will share how hope, faith, and God’s incredible power to change lives through love is impacting schools, teams, businesses, and individuals.

“We’re so excited to have Todd as our keynote speaker,” says Debbie Lancaster, Chairperson of this year’s Harvest of Hope. “Like Todd, every volunteer and donor to the Mission has seen how God’s love can change lives,” says Lancaster.

Oak Mountain Mission Ministries, founded in 2001, provides food, financial assistance for utilities and medical bills, clothing, and other services to families in Jefferson and Shelby County. In 2022, Oak Mountain Mission had 4,643 family visits for assistance, a 15 percent increase over the prior year. Food requests increased by 10 percent, with the Mission providing food for more than 12,000 people in 2022. Utility assistance increased by 19 percent over the previous year.  “Harvest of Hope is our major fundraiser of the year, and the support of it has a significant impact on our ability to meet the growing need for assistance,” says Anna Scott, Director of Oak Mountain Mission Ministries. “With the community’s support, Oak Mountain Mission will continue to provide hope and love to families facing hardship. Harvest of Hope truly transforms lives and makes families and communities stronger.”

The 2023 Harvest of Hope will be held on September 12, 2023, at The Club in Birmingham. A silent auction will begin at 10 AM, and the luncheon and program at 11:30 AM.  The silent auction features vacations, sports and entertainment tickets, restaurant certificates, wonderful gifts, and more.  The Master of Ceremonies of Harvest of Hope will be Janet Hall, a long-time supporter of Oak Mountain Mission and a respected journalist who enjoyed a broadcasting career in Birmingham spanning 40 years.  More than 500 people are expected to attend Harvest of Hope, so reservations are necessary. To sponsor a table or for more information, please get in touch with Oak Mountain Mission at 205-685-5757 or www.oakmtnmissions.com.
