These days, electric vehicles are becoming more mainstream and accessible. Due to the significant perks and advantages that they offer such as energy-efficiency and eco-friendliness, more and more people are beginning to opt for electric cars as their personal vehicle.

If you’re considering purchasing an electric car for the entire family, there are plenty of options you can choose from as electric vehicles come in all sorts of sizes and shapes. From the 2022 Car of the Year Kia EV6 and Porsche Cross Turismo to the Polestar 2, there’s a right electric car that will offer you the ideal driving experience and accommodate what you’re specifically looking for in a vehicle. However, it’s still important to take into account certain factors that make sense to you most in terms of necessity, expenses or preference.

It would also help to be aware of what makes electric vehicles different from traditional cars, especially if you have a big family to cater toward. That said, here are some benefits of getting an electric car for your family that fits your needs.

  1. Reduced Fuel Costs

One of the most appealing perks that electric vehicles offer is its energy efficiency, which then translates to reduced costs of fuel. Considering that we’re currently in a cost of living crises, an average family car usually covers over 100 pounds to be filled up. In such a time where most families are already feeling the effect of this crisis, this can especially make you feel as if owning a car is downright impossible. The good thing is that opting for an electric car helps you cut down on fuel costs – one of the main things car owners worry about.

  1. Lower Carbon Emissions

More and more people have been raising environmental awareness, prompting people and corporations to switch to eco-friendly means in an attempt to conserve and save our planet. Using an electric car for the family will help in reducing your carbon footprint by a large mile, especially since these vehicles have no direct carbon emissions. What this means is that unlike traditional cars, EVs do not release harmful gasses or fumes into the air, allowing you to take a step towards net zero emissions.

  1. Quiet Engine

Traditional vehicles usually cause plenty of inconvenience whenever you start up the engine as they produce extremely loud noises. This can be a nuisance for your other companions in the car, especially your kids if you’re out on a road trip or a vacation. Electric cars don’t have these; instead, they have significantly quieter engines which make for a smooth, peaceful ride towards your destination and going home.

  1. Low Maintenance

Diesel or Fuel cars usually require a high level of maintenance from putting fuel and paying for insurance, which cost quite a fortune. But with electric vehicles, there will be significantly fewer moving components than the ICE or internal combustion counterparts. Even so, you still need to deal with the advanced tech parts of the vehicle such as inverters, air conditioning pumps or high voltage relays.

It’s also worth noting that the schedule for maintenance for electric vehicles is so low that Tesla has even scrapped its entire routine. Customers are more advised to maintain their vehicles on a necessity or need-to basis to avoid unnecessary services.

  1. Dedicated Parking Spots and Driving Lanes

Most electric cars benefit from using their own dedicated parking areas or lanes, which means that you can get scot-free from traffic. This is especially beneficial for families since it rids you of the hassle of being stuck in the hassle caused by traffic with your kids. Instead, you can enjoy continuous driving with no road interferences whatsoever.

Also, electric cars also have dedicated parking spots since the vehicle will require juice for it to work efficiently throughout the day. There are certain places where electric cars can park for free, and even some employers are offering this service/option.

  1. Prospective Grants

Electric cars are growing increasingly popular recently; however, they’re still considered a minority when it comes to the roads. But even so, the government is currently taking steps to incentivize prospective drivers to switch to electric vehicles through EV grants. There are presently four grants offered by the OZEV or Office for Zero Emission Vehicles. These are:

  • Workplace Charging Scheme. This is a form of support for businesses that install EV charging points.
  • Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme. This helps consumers discount their purchases on low-emission cars.
  • On-street Residential Chargepoint Scheme. These are payments to local councils for the installment of on-street charging stations for electric cars.
